Hindu Goddess Kali, a work in progress
Have a few projects I'm working on at one time but I'm kind of digging this one right now. Like I mentioned in an earlier post a friend from work had sent me pictures of the Hindu goddess, Kali. I love the rich colors of the original artwork. So inspiring. Here she is so far, Kali, a work in progress.
Funny, I asked my friend Vani who is Hindu if it was okay to create a art doll of the Goddess and her response was "just keep it away from meat and it should be fine"

A fierce aspect of the Goddess: Kali trampling Shiva.

Keeper of Birds
Finished my Elf tonight. Keeper of Birds. Definitely out of my comfort zone with this one but in the end it was a fun project.
He's heading out to Florida this week.

Hindu Goddess
A friend at work sent me a link to all of these wonderful and very beautiful pictures of Hindu Goddesses. I couldn't help but want to make a Art Doll out of one of them. Here she is (shown center)

Mermaid Doll WIP
Still working on my Mermaid art doll. Need more hair and am waiting patiently for it. In the meantime I changed the button joints to some nice vintage pearl buttons in 4 different sizes. Like it much better.
Glued beads to the fins that are to cover and hide her breasts. I used Aleene's Flexible Stretchable Fabric Glue and it works great for this sort of application. Also have a couple more sculpts in the works. Victorian skull doll and a child.

Making your own Rub-On letter transfer
I came across this post on Scrapbook.com (here is a link to the actual post) http://www.scrapbook.com/tips/doc/4003/35.html
I tried this today and it worked beautifully!! I have okay handwriting but for my art pieces I want the script to look perfect.
Here's what I tried it on. painted wood. Looks awesome.
Making your own Rub-Ons
Submitted by: LaurelC
(compiled after lots of trial and error and with all the info I gathered from many neighbors here...)
... this is what I came up with....
1) Use ink-jet transparencies for your ink-jet printer
2) print on the shiny side, not the grainy side. The instructions on the package say to print on the grainy side, but that is only if you DON'T want to rub-off the image/word.
3) Print on the plain paper setting, not the transparency setting.
4) Print using "enhanced" color - (the better quality, not the better speed) setting on your printer - especially for words.
5) let it DRY!!! before trying to rub-on to your paper. At least 5 minutes, but I am not sure how long is too long.
6) very carefully place the transparency on the paper (could still be wet) and rub. I found the back of a spoon much easier than the Popsicle stick - more surface area to rub with! Several others have said to use your embossing stylus - I haven't tried it yet but I'll bet it works well on smaller things.
7) oh, and an added benefit - you can reuse these transparencies!
8) I found that smaller words/letters work much better - and words/letters better than pics.
