Loads of projects on the table

A bunch of critters to finish this weekend.

The carriage was a flea market find over the summer.
I want to take it apart and repaint it.

Captured - coming along

Added her shorn mane, now to add the bit and bridal.  Just really playing with ideas.

A "Bust" work in progress

I had a captured Unicorn in mind.  Just the first layers of paint but it's coming along.  Plan to adorn it in leather, metal and hair.  It's now just about 3am and I'm too tired to think. Good Night

One of a kind Day of the Dead Art Doll

Well here she is. I was going for more of a pretty look this time with just a dash of DARK.  I delivered her last night to my friend Laila and she just loved it which made me very happy.
She is 18 inches tall.  Sculpted, hand painted head.  Sewn, button jointed body.  Leather hat and shoes.  Costume made from vintage fabrics and lace.

Day of the Dead

Just a week ago a friend of mine had asked me to make her one of my Day of the Dead dead art dolls.  One day later her Dad passed away.   I was shocked.
I found it only fitting to start right away on the doll she had asked for.  If only to put a smile on her face but for a moment during this hard time.
The Day of the Dead is a celebration of life and death.  To celebrate they wore skull masks ( the skull signifies death and rebirth) and danced around the streets to celebrate the lives of their relitives that have past on. They did not fear death but felt it was only the beginning of the journey.

Keeper of Bird's

I have never tried to make any fairy, elf or mermaid art doll's until now.  My work has always been a bit darker.  I have been asked to create fairies and mermaid's for a art gallery in Florida recently.   So for the last week & 1/2 I have been researching these little critters.  I have found dozens of wonderful artist's that specialize in this genre that also have shared their techniques on their blogs which is so great.   I have poured over websites and friend's art books.  I finally sat down last night and started sculpting.  I came up with this for now.  I'm still sculpting but he is a little cute.  I am designating him  the "Keeper of Bird's".  We'll see how it works out.

Gift for a friend - Fallen Stigmata

This is a wall hanging art doll I made for and with Victor-hugo Vaca Jr. in mind.  Inspired by his short film Crackhead Jesus. Victor has been noted as one of the most influential artists of this era.  I was invited to his beach house/studio for dinner, drinks and great company while visiting South Florida recently.  His place is every artists dream.  Everywhere you look is another beautiful painting by what I can only imagine is an artist workaholic.  His catalog of work is just immense.   I can only strive to have his focus and ambition.
