Man in the Moon

Christmas tree ornaments, one for my Sister and one for my friend Laila. They know as well as do that living by the light of the moon is not as pleasant as one would think. I stayed with them through weeks of having no electricity this last month. These little guys are a little reminder of having had to accessorize every outfit with a flashlight.

Post Super Storm Sandy

Well it is now 17 days since Super Storm Sandy reared her horrible head causing such chaos and devastation in New York.  We are still staying with my Sister who has little more than a one bedroom apartment.  So things are tight but we are warm, clean and there is power.  No more boxed meals although a God-send when hungry, not exactly the healthiest.
Thankfully some are bouncing back pretty easily having lost only power for 2 weeks.
Me, a friend of my sister and my sister, Ade
Who knew the flashlight would be the must have accessory for 2012

Unfortunately, we were hit hard.  I still can't believe the condition of our home.  It is just destroyed.  Flooded and Cracked up one side and down the other of the foundation.  But it's not the stuff that can be bought again that bothers me.  It's all of the treasure's of my past, my now lost memorabilia that hurt the most.
The photos of loved ones past, all of the last "I Love You's" written in cards by my Mom who has past away.  Pictures from my childhood.  All of the art I created as a child, a young girl, a young woman till now.  Antiques that made there way to us after 100 years, claimed by the flood. All of those wonderful keepsakes gone forever.
My entire art studio was washed away as well.  Devastated over that.  My sanctuary.  Filled with thousands of bibs and bobs, tools, machinery and fabrics.  It was like working in an arts and crafts store.  I loved my studio, it grew with me throughout the years and was just a wonderful place to work.  I will miss it.

Art is a huge part of my life though and I can't go very long at all without creating something.  So at day 15 I went to the craft store and made my first purchases.  Time to start rebuilding.

So here are my little works in progress.
They are both moons and when done will be Christmas ornaments.
So for now, life might not be back to normal and may not be for a while but somethings will never change and that's a good thing.

Sandy

Sandy did a number on us here in New York. The house was flooded, my studio was completely submerged. All of my work is gone. Right now I just wish I had something to work on.
We have now been without electric, heat and hot water for 10 days!!!
To add insult to injury we are now dealing with a snow storm.
If I didn't know before I certainly do now that I would never survive any sort of apocalypse, Zombie or otherwise.

Coffin Critterz - Matilta - the Mud Swamp Witch

One of the best parts of being an Artist is making cool gifties for my friends and family.  Luckily for me, they like my dash of dark art, so it makes it easy to concoct cool critterz for them.  This afternoon I finished Matilda the Mud Swamp Witch for one of my friends.  She's one of my Coffin Critterz.  She can lay in her coffin on a shelf or hang.  I love creepy Coffin Critterz for the Christmas Tree too.  Say that fast 10x.  :0)

Art Dolls Only

What a great day, opened my mail today to find that my membership application to Art Dolls Only had been accepted and I am now a member!  I have been following this group for some time now, it's members are some of the best Art Doll Artists out there. It is an honor for me to have been accepted and I feel like my work is somehow validated for it.  On cloud nine!  :0)

Now available for purchase in my Etsy Shop

He just didn't seem quite finished to me so I amped him up a bit.

I added leather and metal clasps to the back of his straight jacket and sewed in a leather collar which I must say I love so much more.
He is now officially complete and ready for purchase!

Completely Insane

Well I'm back home in my studio and it was time to complete my One of a Kind Insane Art Doll.  I started him right before I left for my trip.

A few more finishing touches and a photo shoot with natural light and he will be available in my Etsy Shop on Friday.

Coffin Critterz

Visiting with my folks in Florida the past week I took a trip to Michael's Craft Store and picked these little wooden coffins up.  They were just too cute to pass up.

I couldnt wait to get home and sculpt some critters for them so I also picked up some clay and paint.

At home I'll construct the bodies for these little guy's.  I think they are coming out so cute!

Insane

Vintage Insane Asylums always give me the creeps.

Those giant foreboding buildings...Were there really that many insane people that we needed such large institutions?
And what up with those freakazoid lobotomy's???
