New Day of the Dead Doll

Working on a new Day of the Dead doll over the weekend.  Here she is so far.

Gift for a friend

My dog Ziggy wandered away from the house a couple of weeks ago.  Scared the life out of me, so I put out an alert for people I know in the neighborhood on facebook.  A friend of mine selflessly got up and went out to look for her and found her.  He's a big Poe fan so I just had to create this for him as a Thank You.

Irene

It's been a while since I have posted on my blog.  Hurricane Irene hit us hard and the clean up put creating any art on the back burner.

Here is my latest creation.

OOAK Salem Witch Doll

Just finished my latest OOAK art doll. She is gift for a very dear friend of mine who has always been interested in the occult and witchcraft and also has been a wonderful cheerleader for my art throughout the years. I figured, what better witch than a Salem Witch to create for her. I hope she loves it! The doll's body is made of fabric and like I posted earlier made from a pattern by Deana Hogan. You can find her patterns here http://www.blueherondolls.com/blue_heron_patterns.htm. The dolls arm's and legs are jointed which I just love. Her head and hands are made of hand painted polymer clay. The shoes are made of leather.

I am now shipping my dolls in these really cool coffin boxes. I found them at http://www.pushindaisies.com

New Business Cards

Everyone is always asking me where they can find my work online so I finally decided to get business cards printed.

Here's the front of the card

Back of the card

Heads

Going to sculpt a few heads in hope that one will be right for the new body I am working on.  It's all trial and error for me.  Here's one I'm working on now.  I'm aiming for a pretty one.  But like I mentioned before, my hands only ever want to sculpt odd creatures.

I love this pattern!  Even a novice like me can come away from the sewing machine with a great doll.  Instructions are so easy to follow and  Deana Hogan of Blue Heron Dolls includes lots of how-to pictures.  Here's a link to her site.  http://www.blueherondolls.com/blue_heron_patterns.htm

Here is my doll so far.

I altered the size of the pattern.  Also removed head and hands.  They will be sculpted from clay. This body is 14 inches tall and once the head is attached the doll will be approximately 16 1/2 inches tall.

New Pattern

Well I decided to go back to the drawing board or should I say someone elses.  Decided to buy a doll pattern and It look's great.  The doll artist that created it is Deana Hogan.  She sells a bunch of great looking patterns here http://www.blueherondolls.com/blue_heron_patterns.htm and her blog has great tips for creating dolls as well.  Check it out here http://blueherondolls.blogspot.com/

Here is her doll almost complete.  I love that it's jointed but I really just love the form.  I think I'm going to be using this pattern for many doll's in the future!

New Body

I tried a different pattern for her body.  It's a bit Frankensteined.  I used the arms from one pattern I found on the Internet and the body of another and I changed the size completely of the legs from another but I like it.  I think though in the future I will make clay legs.

Mirror Mirror

Trying to make a pretty doll and it just doesn't seem to work out.  They always seem to come out kind of weird looking.  Maybe some hair and a pretty dress will make this gal a bit fairer.

Still have quite a bit more work to do on her.  Also tried a different armature style.  Still on the quest for the perfect body.

Edgar is almost done.

Figured out the new sewing machine and absolutely love it.  It's a brother CS-6000i.  Inexpensive and so easy to operate.  Worked on Edgar today.  Having a lot of fun with this doll.  Here he is so far.

Legs and Lashes

She's coming along nicely.  All she needs is clothing.  Luckily I found some beautiful satin in a gorgeous turquoise.  Now all I have to do is figure out how to use the new sewing machine.

Day of the Dead Doll Arms

During my quest to find the best way to joint doll arms and legs I came across this.  Use bead caps to finish off the ends of the limbs and then connect them with a bead in the middle.  It's quite ornate but for this doll it's perfect.
In this example I drilled holes into the ends of the arms and glued wire into one hole then strung a bead cap and glued it into place. I then strung a bead and again a bead cap.  I drilled an extra hole below and above so I could add more beads.  These are just decorative.

Day of the dead doll in the making

This doll is sooo much fun.

Still working on her arms and legs.

Still working on Edgar

Well, it's been a while.  Edgar is not Quite done yet.  I had to splurge and buy myself a new sewing machine.  Now to figure out how to use it.  It's all computerized.

Edgar Allan Poe Art Doll

Just finished the head and figured I would post it for now.  I always loved his work and the mystery surrounding him.  I am still working on the body but my sewing machine is giving me some trouble.  I think it's time for a new one but I really wouldn't even know where to begin picking one out.
